The exhibition "Shadow Ban" is the second joint project of two creative teams: graduates of the master’s program in Contemporary Painting and the bachelor’s program in Sound Art & Sound Design at the HSE School of Design. Unlike the previous collaboration between the teams — the exhibition "Forced Relationships", which was realized with significant support from the university, this project was entirely carried out by the artists and sound designers themselves: from the creation of the works to finding the venue and sourcing equipment. Curation of the exhibition also fell on the participants' shoulders: the visual part was curated by Elizaveta Molostova, while the sound part was handled by myself and two of my colleagues, sound designers Roman Zharov and Anna Mochkina.

The sound designers were faced with the challenging task of providing audio for the spaces: each room contained paintings by one or two artists, and it was necessary to create a well-crafted auditory backdrop that would complement the narrative not just of one, but of several paintings at once — each vastly different in content.
